So often a wine tastes divine on a holiday, you bring it home, and...disappointment. It could be that the atmosphere has lost its' magic. But also, remember, a good wine needs to rest and transport is not a good thing for it.

Leave it in a good cellar for at least 3 weeks before opening it. Then when opening it, let it breathe.

We often organise wine tastings here at our Château in the Loire Valley and at excellent producers in our region. Excellent, for us, are those that invest in the content in the bottle, not their marketing and label design. We have some fabulous addresses...stay tuned on our blog

Agree. Wine importers too for that very same reason often request samples to taste back in their respective countries to see how it tastes away from the winery ambiance.
I have heard of a company being established next year which will organise tastings of less known wines from France at exclusive wineries in Boston, New York, LA and Vegas, thus enabling a person to purchase the wine they tasted, not on a holiday, but then and there in their own part of the States. Sounds like a great idea.
Yes that would be probably Barry Gilbert who will be delivering a talk on this at the International Wine Tourism Conference 2011 titled Win-win for Tourists and Wineries - Ship it Home. He says in his abstract:

American tourists want to buy wine in European wineries but complex American laws make it expensive and difficult. The result is risky illegal shipments or a sale of 1 or 2 bottles. Wineries that subvert the law put the consumer at risk if US customs catch the wine. Legal shipping to the US requires proper licenses and paperwork. The best solution is new software and logistics that can streamline the process. We can explain the complexities and potential solutions so that wineries can satisfy their tourists and make money at the same time.

Hope wineries from around the world attend the Wine Tourism Conference so they can learn how to increase wine sales through tourism.
