Outlook for Vintage 2010?

With the cooler than normal temperatures and increased precipitation across the province, ripening is sure to be a challenge. What are the expectations for vintage 2010?

"Liam, I totally agree, there is room for both and I hope that is what happens. The cork and screw-cap companies have a lot to gain or lose so there will be a lot of hot-air from both sides as long as the stakes are that high. I thought wine was…"

"Definitely room for both cork and screwcap enclosures. I must admit that I expect cork for wines that I will age for 10+ years. But am opening up to the concept of screwcap for most everything else. I do enjoy the pop of a cork - but as I drink a…"

"We recently did a podcast about screwcaps vs. corks and I also just recently finished To Cork or Not to Cork by George Taber. From the experience of both, it seems to me that it is really only wine industry people who give a crap about how the…"

"I expect to see more wineries adopting stelvin cap (or similar) enclosures for lower and mid tier wines. Such a great way to lock in the freshness and avoid waste which seems to out-weight the carbon footprint argument against them.   I believe…"

"I agree that this years whites have a good chance to shine. Smaller cluster size and high acid levels can produce some excellent aromatic, crisp wines. A small break for dry white fans, as the tendency for wineries to favor the sweet side in the…"

"Less than an optimum year. Successive weather events starting with last year's October freeze have produced some imbalances in the vineyards. It is site and varietal specific. Cultural practices did and will have a part to play as well. Good…"

About me or my company:
The BCWI plays a key role in the growth of BC’s wine industry. Our 99 winery members and 15 grapegrower partners represent 95% of BC VQA sales, 95% of the province’s total wine production and produce 88% of 100% BC grape wine production.

BC VQA wines are now the second-largest category (behind only non-VQA Canadian wine) in BC sales and these sales continue to grow. BC VQA wines now dominate the quality wine market in BC – meaning British Columbians choose BC VQA wines over imported wines from any other region or country.

The BCWI works tirelessly to build and market the Wines of British Columbia (BC VQA) wine brand, creates the business climate that allows members to prosper, liaises with government and stakeholders on key business and regulatory issues and promotes the industry to key wine, food and travel media on behalf of its membership.

If you are a BC licensed grape winery or a BC grapegrower interested in BCWI membership please contact the BC Wine Institute at 250-762-9744 or info@winebc.com for further information.

Hi Lindsay, welcome to BC Wineries. It is great to see the BC Wine Institute on here. I really look forward to reading your posts. Please feel free to use the site to its fullest, ie. post events, discussions, etc. If you have any questions, I am across the parking lot in Landmark II. It would be great to work together to promote our wine region. Cheers, Kevin
