Unbelievable Disrespect of Wine by BC Licensing and Control

You must read the whole thing on the Winecouver blog but here's an excerpt

"However, Firefly Fine Wine and Ales have hit a roadblock with the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch (LCLB). Despite the lack of written regulations regarding the usage of Enomatic machines (which are far too modern for their antiquated guidelines), they’ve offered some directives to Firefly on their usage. According to Gerves, “In the BC tasting regulations, every store has normally to dump in the sink every left… Continue

It was a family outing that day and we were on a tight schedule. I would have liked to have had time to hear your talk. I'll keep an eye out for other T7 events.

Although, I must admit that as for the tastings, my main goal was to try your Black Cloud Pinot.

Picked up a Black Dog Merlot while we were there. 60 months on oak - yikes. Might have to wait for cooler weather to open (and tame) that one.

Hello Brad,

I met you last year at Township 7 during harvest on the crush pad briefly, and have been talking to Lawrence Hooper about Bonitas for awhile, and would love to talk to you some more. Your Merlots are some of the best I've had; on a more interesting note, I was talking to my wine tasting professor (Dave Hulley) who presented a Township 7 Merlot to Ann Noble, which she was also blown away by. At any rate I look forward to talking to you some more, and meeting you in person.

Cheers,
Eric Sommerfeld

It was more intense than I anticipated. Needed to be familiar with wines not available in Canada. 20 multiple choice questions. First blind tasting, six South African wines. Info required: Vintage, Variety/ies, Producer, District, Ward. Round two was an oral assessment of three wines, not necessarily South African. 20 questions to be answered orally too. Having to answers on your feet is different from writing in on paper! Over all, it was lots of fun and I met some top industry professionals. My knowledge of South African wines has never been better. Looking forward to next years competition.
